Morgul
Acerca de Morgul
When it was first conceived during the winter of 1990-1991, in the Oslo suburb of Råde, Norwegian black metal act Morgul consisted of minimally named drummer Hex and his multi-instrument (guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals) playing partner, Jack D. Ripper, whose alternate handles over the years have also included Charmock and J Maestro Discordia. Similarly restless was their recorded output, which gradually evolved from brute, misanthropic black metal (on early demos "Vargvinter" and "In Gowns Flowing Wide," both 1995), to a more melodic and atmospheric, but no less bombastic approach for first albums Lost in Shadows Grey and Parody of the Mass (1997 and 1998, respectively). Hex made his exit at this time, and coincidentally or not, ensuing Morgul releases The Horror Grandeur (1999) and Sketch of the Supposed Murderer (2001, both of them released by new label Century Media), found now one-man show Jack D. Ripper exploring eclectic, post-black metal terrain à la Ulver and Arcturus. This passion for exploration and fierce independence persisted into 2005's All Dead Here..., which was recorded autonomously before being licensed to Season of Mist Records. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
