Acerca de Nanaco
b. Nanaco Sota, Japan. Nanaco first entered the music industry by chance. As a university student in Japan she was approached by friends from the campus music club about an upcoming audition for a record company which was looking for female singer-songwriters. With her brothers encouragement and a friends accompanying guitar playing she appeared singing her own composition, and won both the contest and a recording contract. She subsequently recorded five albums in Japan in the late 70s - four solo and one with a band - in a style she later described as soft punk. However, having been brought up on the 60s music of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell she decided this was not her favoured style and by chance fell into a career as a photographer. By the mid-90s she was well-known internationally for her fashion shoots, having also photographed several famed actors (including Harvey Keitel) and musicians (Leonard Cohen, Yoko Ono). In 1995 she decided to relaunch her musical career via a contract with the American label Hyper Disc Records. Love Is A Drug featured contemporary recordings that recalled the work of Garbage and Björk, though the ethos was still very much that of the 60s - a fact proved by the inclusion of a cover version of Woodstock.
