Acerca de Big Data
Big Data is the contemporary electropop project of Brooklyn-based producer and Harvard graduate Alan Wilkis, inspired by themes of humans vs. technology. Vocalist Daniel Armbruster, Rajeev Basu ("interactive/hacker"), and GHOST+COW ("visual") have also been credited with early input. During the tail end of the 2000s and the beginning of the 2010s, Wilkis established himself as a remix producer for the likes of Temper Trap ("Sweet Disposition"), Fenech-Soler ("Demons"), and Yelle ("Que Veux-Tu") -- one who makes all-new instrumentals and uses only the vocal tracks from the original material. Big Data took shape in 2012 and debuted the following October with a four-track EP titled 1.0, issued on Wilkis' Wilcassettes label. The same year, Wilkis also issued PRINTS -- a four-track release as well, based on collaborations with Armbruster's Joywave, the Kickdrums, Paul Holmes, and World War. Big Data's 1.5, consisting of eight remixes of 1.0's "Dangerous," was out by year's end. In 2014, the song was featured in the films Veronica Mars and Earth to Echo. That summer, Wilkis also signed with Warner Bros. Records just before "Dangerous" hit number one on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart and Big Data appeared with Armbruster to perform the song on the U.S. TV show Late Night with Seth Myers. The simultaneously catchy and uneasy full-length debut, 2.0, was released by Warner in the spring of 2015. Consisting of ten tracks including "Dangerous," it features Armbruster as well as vocalists White Sea, Jamie Lidell, Kimbra, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak, Dragonette, Bear Hands, and Twin Shadow. ~ Andy Kellman & Marcy Donelson
