Just Water
Acerca de Just Water
Just Water were just one of numerous bands on the mid- to late-'70s New York scene operating outside of the major-label recording contract system and barely documented on vinyl. Their music wasn't as non-mainstream as many of the bands associated with the city's punk/new wave circuit, owing much to Who-like power pop and some more conventional album-oriented rock. It was a little to the left of the era's rock mainstream, however, though few got to hear it, the group's output being limited to the 1977 LP The Riff and a slightly punkish arrangement of "Singin' in the Rain" that was issued as a single and actually got some airplay on commercial East Coast stations. Another album, Meet the Competition, was nearly completed but not issued, the group breaking up at the end of the 1970s. The Riff, "Singin' in the Rain," the material from Meet the Competition, and many studio outtakes, demos, and live tracks are included on the 2007 three-CD compilation Downtown and Brooklyn: The Complete Recordings. ~ Richie Unterberger
