Sara Kempe
Acerca de Sara Kempe
Joining Katherine Jenkins, Charlotte Church, and Natasha Marsh on the long list of Welsh female operatic vocalists, Sara Kempe is a fiery-haired soprano who rose to the top of the classical charts thanks to an unlikely association with the world of golf. Born in Abergavenny in 1990, Kempe first began singing when she took up lessons to pass the time while attending a boarding school in Hereford. At age 15, she took a tea-girl job at a nearby recording studio in order to learn the ropes and work her way up through the music industry, and after performing at various clubs and corporate events, she was discovered by Sir Terry Matthews, owner of Gwent's Celtic Manor Resort, and the venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup. Kempe was asked to record the first ever official single for the golf event, "Let Me Fly (Where Dragons Fly)," which was used to promote the competition in its television advertising campaign. Soon after, she signed a deal with EMI, sang the National Anthem at the Welsh Grand National, and supported Aled Jones on his U.K. tour. In 2011, she released her debut album, Let Me Fly, a combination of original songs and covers of tracks by Snow Patrol, Sarah McLachlan, and Cyndi Lauper, while she also appeared alongside Paul Potts, the Priests, and Rhydian on the Classical Relief for Haiti charity single "The Prayer." ~ Jon O'Brien
