New England indie folk quintet the Novel Ideas specialize in a rich blend of pastoral, rural country-folk and roots-based, plaintive Americana that invokes names like Bon Iver, the Avett Brothers, and the Lumineers. Formed in Newton, Massachusetts around the talents of Daniel Radin (guitar, vocals), Danny Hoshino (pedal steel, guitar, vocals), and a rotating cast of instrumentalists and singers, the band issued their debut long-player, Say Hello, independently in 2008. They recorded their self-released nine-track follow-up, Home, in a barn in New Hampshire in 2012. ~ James Christopher Monger.
