Barbara's Daughter

Sat in the bar and my eyes caught a stranger
Who seemed to be looking at me
He looked familiar but I couldn't place him
And I wondered who could he be?
Tried to ignore him when he walked on over
He sat down and said, do you mind?
Can you spare me a moment?
I have to know something
Won't take up much of your time

Are you Barbara's daughter?
Are you Barbara's child?
Gee, you sure look like Barbara
You've got Barbara's smile
You've got eyes the same colour
And her lips red and wild
Are you Barbara's daughter?
Are you Barbara's child?

He pulled out a photo, well worn at the edges
He passed it on over to me
There was my mama
My daddy beside her
And I was the child, that makes three
Then I remembered how my mama told me
Daddy had gone far away
Something about money, 'bout trouble in prison
And once more I heard the man say

Are you Barbara's daughter?
Are you Barbara's child?
Gee, you sure look like Barbara
You've got Barbara's smile
You've got eyes the same colour
And her lips red and wild
Are you Barbara's daughter?
Are you Barbara's child?

I looked at the stranger
He looked a lot older than the photo he held in his hand
I couldn't breathe, it was hard to believe
But I knew that he was the same man
My heart was pounding
I had to say something
I saw no reason to lie
There in the barroom I put my arms round him
These are the words I replied

Yes, I'm Barbara's daughter
Yes, I'm Barbara's child
And I take after Barbara
I've got Barbara's smile
I've got eyes the same colour
And her lips red and wild
Yes, I'm Barbara's daughter
Yes, I'm Barbara's child
