Floating Downstream

Now I make my way down the river
My boat floats on
Living in this tiny floating pod-house
I know I could eventually drown
Sometimes I'm staring at the wall for so long
I forget that water is
What it all floats on

The hopeless are flying by
Lying just outside my door
They're not what I was waiting for
Somehow they're what I'm praying for
In the morning their camps
Finally have real peace
The dim smoke rising
From their embers is quiet

God only knows the distance down this river
Sometimes a sliver of light
Sometimes the return of the night
Sometimes I'm laughing with you for so long
I forget that water is what it all floats on

The hopeless flying by
Lying just outside the door
They're not what I was waiting for
Somehow they're what I'm praying for
In the morning their camps
Finally have real peace
The dim smoke rising from
Their embers is quiet
