Good Days

When the cold winds blow through the streets
whispering round corners and eaves
Then if you're passing nearby
You will maybe hear a mournful sigh
It comes from the centre of town
Where a spired building stretches to the sky
From every brick in the old dark walls
You can interpret a silent call:

Let's go back to the good days

Inside in the medieval dark
a man is sitting all dressed in black
He's smiling so kind it seems
In fact the smile is concealing a dream:

Let's go back to the good days
Let's go back to the good days

Once we were one
Once we were strong
But now..all has gone - slipped away

The executioner was my friend
the stake was a weapon in my hand
Back the my words were law
Nowadays no one obeys me anymore

Let's go back to the good days
Let's go back to the good days

Ohhh those were the days! The smoke from the square - and people had a good time!
A bad conscience me? Oh, no - why should I ? They all confessed their crime...didn't they?

Still the spired building stands there
The whispering growing stronger with the wind
And it wailing has not been in vain
It seems like fundamentalism thrives again

Yes, the world is breeding madness again
There's no way to stop this turning back
But to tear down that building - brick by brick
Destroy the cover of these lunatics - stop their call:

Let's go back to the good days
Let's go back to the good days
Back to the good days
Let's go back to the good days
