Last Ride of the Sunset Men

The Cumberland river pirates pulled out of their strongholds
Past the red clay miners leaving neon diners
High on Spartans hill
And the carbon county road block
It held fast against the wicked wind
There was talk of lies and treason
Dissension without reason that fell on deaf ears again
Then the thunder cracked as they jumped on the backs
Of tornadoes they kept parked outside
At our windows we watched the last ride
Of the sunset men
The technicolor catfish moved on to greener pastures
But all those pressed and slick lone rangers
Wouldn't know the sign of danger if it bit them on the ass
And the printers alley poets
Wrote it all down as fast as they could go
When the day turned to night
They were still fighting over copyrights
And there was no one left to know
As the soldiers and sailors called out to their jailors
When Main street it split open wide
In the wake of the final ride
Of the sunset men
And they came unto a place
That knew not the name or face
Of the dark ones that walked in our midst
They told myths, legends lies
With forked tongues and hungry eyes
That the breath of immortality had kissed
Then the tall one with the hammer
So drunken that he stammered
Stood and rallied with a flash of living light
And the host all rose as one
The final battle had begun
The sunset men rode out into the night
Give em hell!, shouted Hades
As a full dress parade of the dead marched out ever amen
They'll not soon see our like again
The Sunset men
They'll not soon see our like again
The Sunset men
