New Year's Eve

New years eve again tonight
Comparing with your friends how far you've climbed
Decided to give up the smoking, as your resolution last year
And now your standing with a cigarette, lighting fireworks that's turning into air
Oh, it's back to the old ways, witch you thought had disappeared
How come you're always so blue every new year?

Your standing in a church with your old friends
It's Christmas break, and you're all home again
You look back on all those good years, and then it hits you, it will never be the same
Some of the friends you've lost forever, and now you understand why some people pray
And as you sit down on the bench you feel the weight
The children choir starts to sing of Christmas day

Hallelujah
And you want to go back, but it's a one way track
It's kind of crippling don't you think
There's now escaping it, now way to fake it
You either swim, or else you'll sink
And as you sit down on the bench you feel the weight
Your thinking to yourself, next year i'll try to change

A Christmas party with you colleagues again,
You tell a joke over and over in your head,
Then you muster all the courage you have left, before you tell it out loud
A silent victory from last year when you got drunk and ended up sleeping on the couch
One step further from the past, and all the fears
oh, it's easy to compare every new year
but you dare to tell it out loud
Instead you drink some more, and pass out, spending one more night, just sleeping on the couch
Oh its back to the old ways, witch you thought had disappeared
Its so easy to compare every new year

And as the sky is sparkling bright, you se your self, and know
Your just like Peter, when he heard the rooster crow
( to drunk to even care)
