Old North State

I grew up west of Asheville, at least that's what I claim
To home with a single mother on a strip of red dirt clay
We didn't have much money no, but we had love in spades
So lucky to have grown up in my Old North State

I'm partial to Carolina it's my favorite shade of blue
Reminds me of my best girl's eyes, they're my favorite hue
She's the reason I believe in love, and why I reject hate
Main reason that I stayed in my Old North State

My Old North State has that good 'ol mountain dew
My Old North State is just perfect for me and you
And it's been so long that I can hardly wait
My Old North State

We've got Land of Waterfalls and Mountains to the Sea
Dogwoods and Cardinals and the tallest peaks in the east
You can still hear a lonesome train, slowly hauling freight
It's not hard to fall in love with my Old North State

My Old North State has that good 'ol mountain dew
My Old North State is just perfect for me and you
And it's been so long that I can hardly wait
My Old North State
