To Climb the Mountain of Faith
We begin before we learn, we learn to climb before we crawl
There is a mountain at the start, the start of many standing tall
On the day I raised my flag, like a vision from a dream
On the horizon I saw you, but many mountains lay between
So I began to climb again, and you can say that I've done well
But there were times I went too fast, and many times I nearly fell
Did the miracle then happen? Did I climb the highest one?
I could see the world below me, no more climbing, I was done
But I forgot about the valley, and in the sky was sudden rain
So like a fool I caught on fire to throw my ashes on the plane
I have gathered up my pieces, and I've climbed the nearest hill
It's a private place for dying, but it's connected to you still
And as the smoke it circles around me, your mighty summit's in a haze
So I close my eyes and remember while I let my bridges blaze
So I realize my failure, they saved the highest one for last
That I might look upon my future while this mountain shades my past
So I lie here knowing there's nothing left
But to climb the mountain of faith
