About Wyrd
Originally a project led by former Azaghal members Narqath (Tomi Kalliola) and Kalma that went by the moniker Hellkult, Wyrd are a Finland-based thrash project that would eventually morph into more atmospheric, dark, and brooding black metal territory by their 2007 release, Kammen. As Hellkult, the group released three more thrash-tinged demos from 1997-1998, but after the last of these, Of Pure Heathen Blood, Kalma decided to call it day, and Narqath re-imagined the project, dubbing it Wyrd. Bringing gloomier and more atmospheric sounds into the mix, Narqath released a series of demos before securing a deal with the Millennium Metal label, and was able to see Wyrd's official debut album, Heathen, hit the streets in 2001. Huldrafolk followed in 2002, and was the first in a series of albums that would put a full-length by Wyrd in the shops once a year for the next five years. In 2007, with drummer J.L. Nokturnal (who joined in 2005) taking on percussion duty, Wyrd -- now a part of the Avantgarde label family -- released the aforementioned album number seven, Kammen. ~ Chris True
