About New Life Community Choir
The 30-member New Life Community Choir was assembled in 1981 by its leader, the Rev. John P. Kee. A former drug addict, Kee had found redemption through Christianity, and was keen to put something back into the Charlotte community. Many members of the New Life Community were also rescued from violent or criminal backgrounds, the choir serving as a rehabilitation process for many. The group began its career by supporting several renowned gospel acts, before releasing their first record, Yes Lord, in 1987. A succession of devout albums for Verity Records established the group as residents in the gospel charts, while Kee also used the groups standing and finances to organise social programmes, local businesses and work opportunities for the community.
