California's Destiny Rogers is a singer/songwriter with a sound that touches upon laid-back R&B and hip-hop-inflected pop. She emerged in 2019 with the EP Tomboy.rnBorn in Lodi, California, in 1999, Rogers grew up in a religious family. A skateboarder from age six, she initially thought that the sport might be her calling. However, inspired by her youth pastor father's passion for rock music like AC/DC and her mother's love of mariachi, she was also drawn to music. After receiving her first guitar at age nine, she began teaching herself how to play by watching videos online, including learning Justin Bieber hits. As her taste matured, so did her own songwriting abilities, and by her teens she was busking on weekends around Los Angeles. Eventually, she caught the ear of the songwriting and producer team the Stereotypes, who signed her to their Beach Wave Sound label in 2018.
