Icelandic composer-producer Ólafur Arnalds has blended classical symphonic sophistication with modern pop ambiance across a variety of solo albums and scores for film and television.
∙ Arnalds composed the score to the 2011 film Another Happy Day, written and directed by Sam Levinson (creator of the drama series Euphoria). ∙ For Now I Am Winter—his third solo LP—hit No. 1 on the Billboard Traditional Classical Albums chart in 2013. ∙ His score for the series Broadchurch—his first composition for TV—won Best Original Music honors at the 2014 BAFTA Awards. ∙ Late Night Tales: Ólafur Arnalds—his 2016 mixtape for the Late Night Tales curation series—features his slow burn cover of Destiny’s Child’s Grammy-winning hit “Say My Name.” ∙ re:member—a Top 10 classical crossover album from 2018—featured his innovative Stratus Pianos system: two self-generative keyboards triggered by his own playing on a third piano. ∙ Arnalds’ theme to the Apple TV+ miniseries Defending Jacob was nominated for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music at the 2020 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
