It's hard to leave all our possessions, I find it hard
Hard to leave behind the jewels
But they keep hammering upon the back door
And our new kings shall play at being fools

To find the words to tell it to our children
Quite unaware of what's about to be
Between one sable and the bear skin
Both worlds apart the freedom and the turn key

And they say time will prove to be the master
And they say time will teach the weak to rise
You could perhaps say that we were unaware
If the truth be known it was right before our eyes
1917 was no surprise

The hollow echo of the jailer
The time has come we shall at last be free
My mind is back inside the splendour
They can take my blood, but the fury stays with me

The snow lies thick inside the courtyard
A breeze of ignorance blows clean and new
Between the present and the future
Between the Sabbath and the empty pews

And they say time will prove to be the master
And they say time will teach the weak to rise
You could perhaps say that we were unaware
If the truth be known it was right before our eyes
1917 was no surprise
