A Good Kid
I was headed down the highway
Wasn't going nowhere
I was a stranger in the city
But I didn't care
I was a beggar in the moonlight
A dealer in the park
A hero on the corner
Trying to steal another heart
Took women for their money
As I strolled through their towns
I shot my arms full of holes
Just to see the blood dripping down
Well he went to college
He got good grades
He made himself a future
Yeah the road was paved
But then the towers fell
He went to Afghanistan
Where they blew him to hell
Only to bring him back again
But the horror in his eyes
Nobody wanted to see
From being alive
He just wanted to be free
We grew up together
On our fathers' streets
He stood like my brother
When I caught the heat
They called him a good kid
And I was the bad friend
But the truth that they hid
You know did us both in
Cause he believe in everything
And I didn't believe a word
And now he's dead
And I just heard
