Baker of Thurruck
Thomas was a landowner
His holding was his life
He paid his tax and worked around
Avoiding any strife
The bailiff came like clockwork
Taking everything by law
After Simons head tax came
The people had no more
Investigations started by
The justice of the peace
To knock on doors and squeeze the poor
Contempt for him increased
Brampton went to Corringham
He traveled there with aid
He met the men and women there
With sticks and clubs and blades
Thomas said "we've had enough
We'll take no more insults!"
In poured the shouts a fight broke out
The start of the revolt!
