Silent, frozen still
And nothing dares to touch
Except the hiss of pulling thread
As the stitching comes undone
There's a new tear in my lip
The knot is always slipping
Calmly pin the cloth
To keep the blood from dripping
Press upon the skull
To keep the mind from skipping
Press upon the heart
To forget all that's missing
Am I even listening?
I'll dream of it's shadow
But I may never see it
I'll close my eyes to feel its warmth
But wake up cold
I'll dream of it's breath
But I'll never feel it on my neck
Tensions unresolved
My name upon the stone
I'll never let it go
Strip the insides from the pen
Let it never spill ink again
The paper is always blank
And the words always left unsaid
