Bright Side of the Street (With the Abstractions)

I used to walk alone at night
Always hiding out of sight
Thinking my life was best left unseen
I was haunted by my dreams
My own shadow made me scream
I was afraid of what it all might mean

I thought the light would burn me
I thought I couldn't take the heat
But now I've crossed on over
To the bright side of the street

I used to stumble in the dark
Always end up off the mark
And pretend it's where I wanted to be
I would justify my flight
Always pretending I was right
As if hiding out would set me free

To think of all the energy
I spent on self-defeat
Until I crossed on over
To the bright side of the street

So why keep your eyes closed tight
Always pretending that it's night
Grasping groping clasping hoping
Putting up a fight
You don't need no new technique
All you do is move your feet
Leave your mind behind
And find the bright side of the street

It's always dark behind you
No reason to retreat
Put your best foot forward
To the bright side of the street
