Bruises & Blood

A boy sat alone on his way home
Crying in his sleeve
He thought of his right to put up a fight and
Question authority
He shook his head because he'd be dead if he even
Said a word
So he just looked down and started to frown
As he thought of this

Bruises and blood can't wash away can't wash away
All the old scars won't go away won't go away
Memories of pain are here again they're here to stay
Won't go away
Bruises and blood

He runs in the door and up the next floor
Don't want another beating
There he's father stands holds out his hands
One with a bottle
He says get in the car we'll go to the bar
And that's all he remembers

Bruises and blood can't wash away can't wash away
All the old scars won't go away won't go away
Memories of pain are here again they're here to stay
Won't go away
Bruises and blood

After some years and washed away tears
He visits his Dad's grave
Broken and bent not a penny was spent
Trying to repair it
The boy leaves some flowers and after hours of sitting still
He leans in close and says
God said forgive so I try
