Chasing your trail

today I passed your house while I was looking for a takeaway
and as far as I could see there was someone behind the curtain
now I wonder all the time if this person has been you, my girl
I thought the shape might fit, but right now I am not certain

then I strolled through the park, you know, the one with all the bees in it
and all the trees and all the bees were whispering your name
I remembered scenes from far away you were dancing down the meadow
I watched you from behind a tree - my wonderful Elaine
chasing your trail
searching for you
never want to give up

and when I passed your house again my way back to the tube
I asked myself what I would do if you came along the street
loving you since forty years but never said a word to you
a silent dreamer near you - but hey I make ends meet
chasing your trail
searching for you
never want to give up
