Grand Delusions
Two dreamers
Rolled out of
A pyramid of plastic
Onto the soggy English soil
And stretched their legs
Devoid of
Colour, so smothered on a ton of baby oil
They'd come with
Stars in their eyes
To the bright lights of the stage
Where it was rumoured giants sung
And they had yearnings to assuage
Oh, velvet curtain
Between two trees
This was a stage beyond imagining
Not merely by degrees
For this was not a stage where giants sung nor even where they came
This was a dirt road for mere mortals
A respite for the lame
There was no volume switch on that footpath
And their time was almost up to prove they're worthy of that makeshift stage
Worthy of that shrub
Oh, false expectation
That's not the last (That's not the last)
We'll see of you (We'll see of you)
Oh, what great illusion
Will you trick us into thinking is true?
Hey, I think another grand delusion's due
Deep in the depths
Of that carnival
With its bigtop and flickering lights
They were invisible
For our dreamers
The soundtrack
Was the roar of the crowd
So the silence that followed was
Laughable
They'd come with
Stars in their eyes
To the bright lights of the stage
Where it was rumoured giants sung
And they had yearnings to assuage
Oh, false expectation
That's not the last (That's not the last)
We'll see of you (We'll see of you)
Oh, all ye dreamers
Take heed of this tale, 'cause it's true
And I think another grand delusion's due
