I Grew a Tree

I grew a little tree
I tore it to the ground
A little savagery
That's coming back around

I cut away the leaves
And they died without a sound
Nothing's ever free
Nothing's ever found

Batter the door, the sound of my words
Shatter the core of all I adored
Patterns surround this world I ignored
Scatter the seeds I thought could restore
This feeling of bliss, a sense of calm
Your asterisk, your afterthought
'Cause nothing comes if nothing goes
And all these feelings just won't get swept away

I grew a little tree
I tore it to the ground
Nothing's ever free
Nothing's ever found

Make up the nouns that fall on my ears
Wake up the town to drown in my fears
Waiting to guard the strength of my years
Hating to not be roused by your tears
Complete the thought, your post-remark
To all my ripostes you thought could spark
The coming end, the going light
But all these feelings just won't get swept away

I grew a little tree
I tore it to the ground
A little savagery
That's coming back around

I grew a little tree
I grew a little tree
I grew a little tree
