The Only Place That I Can Turn to Is Me

My mother always asked me
Why as the girl I had to play with fire
Always pushed the boundaries told the so-called honest people they were liars
When I opened end up my tear-filled eyes, they had turned their backs
So the only place I could turn to
Was me

As I questioned why they caught and pinned the freedom of the butterflies to paper
I was always told I was lazy, no one thought perhaps that I just deemed it crazy
They took an awful lot of time
Just to tell us how different we all were
So the only place I could turn to
Was me

With all the best intentions I tried hard to tell the story as I saw it
But honesty has never won first prize so, quite frankly
They ignored it
While others saw a man on the moon
Somehow I saw a rabbit
So the only place I could turn to
Was me

I believe the future does belong to those who see the beauty of their dreams
And happiness is simple, do what’s right
In the right way at the right time
Wisdom is always the best guide
And faith the best companion
So I always end up turning
To me

That's why I always end up turning
To me
So I always end up turning
To me
