The Unicorn
Well, a long time ago, when the earth was green
There were more kinds of animals than you've ever seen
They roamed around free while the earth was being born
And the loveliest of all was the unicorn
There was lots of alligators and long-necked geese
Humpy-backed camels, there were chimpanzees
Cats and rats and elephants but sure as you're born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn
Well, the Lord saw some sinning and it caused Him pain
He said, stand back, I'm gonna make it rain
He said, hey, brother Noah, I'll tell you what to do
Go out and build me a floating zoo
And you take
Two alligators, a couple of geese
Two humpy-backed camels and two chimpanzees
Two cats, two rats, two elephants but sure as you're born
Don't you forget my unicorn
Well, Noah was there and he answered the calling
He finished up the ark just as rain started falling
He marched in all the animals
Two by two
And he called out as they came through
Hey, Lord, I got you
Two alligators a couple of geese
Two humpy-backed camels and two chimpanzees
Two cats, two rats, two elephants but Lord, I'm so forlorn
I just couldn't find no unicorn
Well, Noah looked out through the driving rain
The unicorns were hiding and playing silly games
A-kicking and a-splashing, the rain started falling
They just didn't hear old Noah calling
Then the ark started moving and drifting with the tide
The unicorns looked up from their rock and they cried
Then the water came down and just floated them away
That's why you'll never see any unicorns, to this day
You'll still see lots of alligators and long-necked geese
Humpy-backed camels, you'll see chimpanzees
Cats and rats and elephants but sure as you're born
You're never gonna see no unicorn
