Song of a burning heart

Song of a heart that’s burning
like an ancient light,
that is always elusive
and can never be yours;
song of a burning heart.

If when you sing you want to think
of the words you are saying,
you will never know what you say
with the words you are singing.
If you don’t think and don’t sing
you will save yourself all that.

My only company
the solitude of night,
your shadow in daytime
my only company.
Neither every night
nor every day.

With a sickle we will harvest it,
with picks we will break it
and in the pit we will bury it:
the fear, still the fear.
And with a hammer we will nail
inside the heart of the night
a loud cry of hopes
still against the fear.

This sleep is woken
by nothing or no one.
And we keep on living sleep
and we keep on sleeping life.
Who will be able to wake us,
what will be able to wake us,
how will we be able to wake
from a cherished sleep?
