The ballad of the magpie and the blackbird

I have seen a magpie with a white crest,
green feet, black eyes and eyebrows,
alone, without equal, away from the others,
so my eyes were pleased to look at it;
and, beside it, there was a blackbird,
with such bearing, feathers and brightness,
that there is no poet so great in all the world
who can sing the praises of such a pearl;
and with a sweet voice and unison
of music and words, they sang this ballad:

"For my illness, there is no cure,
unless you look at me
with such eyes, so that I can say
that it doesn't please you any longer
that I have to die for you.

If I die for you, then you will believe
the love I have for you,
and it is impossible for you not to cry
for the sad death
of the one you don't love now;
for my suffering cannot leave me,
unless you turn
your eyes towards me, so that they say
it doesn't please you any longer
that I have to die for you."
