A Nighttime in Nairobi
A Nighttime in Nairobi
(M. Canarie)
Just touched down in this sacred land
Kicking up dust from the dawn of man
Prayin' to a god who might understand
We measure time in an hourglass
But a thousand years is the recent past
And in Kibera life goes real fast
Origami buildings with tinted glass
The Mombasa train goes roaring past
Choking on fumes from the KBS
A nighttime in Nairobi
A nighttime in Nairobi
A nighttime in Nairobi lasts a million years
Streets teeming with 10 million souls
From CBD to the slums of Kayole
And the setting sun burns a toxic gold
So this is where they say it all began
With some pots and tools they made by hand
Spreading out to distant lands
So follow the glory of this reign
Follow the carnage and the pain
Follow the beauty while some remains
Cause it's a trail of wonder, a trail of tears
A suffocating atmosphere
And dream of water cool and clear
