Saltwater

My schedule is empty
It's clouding my vision
Take the train without payment
Where I read novels and nod off a bit

In fiction like quick dreams
The surreal can be ugly
A shadow you recognize
Metaphor, plot device
I wake up to the station lights

Visions of wasted days
Saltwater baptized
Confide and sunbathe
Sun cuts your raw face

A spoonful of honey
A warm shrine of sleep
I nurse my tobacco
I cough into my sheets

Jesus won't save you
He ain't a physician
Just make time for dancing
Listen to Otis in the kitchen
I recycle the trash in my mind

Visions of wasted days
Saltwater baptized
Confide and sunbathe
Sun cuts your raw face

Birds on a wire
The bells dripping through
A repetitive prayer
May I have nothing to do
