Upstream

The sun is a yellow moon, across the river.

I'm in the mix on the low, my frequency is where the neon lights glow
y'all remember the peep shows and freak hoes around 42nd, New York was hectic
I used to chill at the Broadway Arcade among the reckless
I was a loose wreck, wrecked out of sight in the upper decks at Yankee Stadium at night, Blinded by the lights like
3am no traffic, I'm wandering the streets no peace
Take an incision into the city's soul while she sleeps
Snoring out these beats, it's pulsing in my veins
My brain waves vibe with the train's maze
And the steam smoking from the gutters got my eyes morphing, electric green iris, Thoughts exploding on papyrus
Sometimes I wish it was back in the days
When cats would sling oregano, calling it purple haze
And you could ride the A uptown Harlem way
No people, empty cars, bright lights, Broadway

The sun is a yellow moon, across the river
(repeat)

The city's changed a lot, it's re-arranged a lot
But the same intoxicated spirit caught
Scribbling in chalk on blocks broken, smoking words, choking
On gun-fire from another glock that spoke in, such a way to leave a shirt soaking
Blood red, hey I run red's risky, I guess I'm feeling frisky
Eyes watch they miss me. I'm gonna twist up in the mist and go and see Jah with me
Haters can't trip me, let me tell y'all quickly
Bout these streets, and sheets of Hudson sunsets that lift me
With the strength to set the sword in stone, strictly, to the hilt.
Built to last in this concrete mass of noxious gas
Where fast lives are cast into the annals of the past like
Street symbols, through streaked windows and blurred lights
The hieroglyphics of the night
Like broken windows, shattered mementos of the fast life
Ghosts of the city living past life

The sun is a yellow moon across the river
(repeat)
