Gather Up Lilac

The show's in the open air
No curtain there to raise
No audience to see the hero
Playing his part

The show of life got started
With a broken heart
I remember
Through a tear

Smokey rings are drifting
Across a sky of icy blue
Little kids are playing catch among the fallen trees
Bright blooms fly high above the village green
And the piper plays his tune

Gather up lilacs in spring time
Kick up the leaves in the autumn wind
But hook on the wine from the fruits of the summer
True love, like the lilacs in winter will die

Lonely tear drops shining
As they fall upon the sand
The sea comes rolling in again
To kiss the shore

The way you kissed my cheek
So many times before
But the tide rolls out again

I hear nightclub songs of laughter
As the curtain slowly falls
Through the line I see her standing close to me
My arms reach out for nothing but a memory
And the piper plays his tune

Gather up lilacs in spring time
Kick up the leaves in the autumn wind
But hook on the wine from the fruits of the summer
True love, like the lilacs in winter will die

Gather up lilacs in spring time
Kick up the leaves in the autumn wind
But hook on the wine from the fruits of the summer
True love like the lilacs in winter will die

Gather up lilacs in spring time
Kick up the leaves in the autumn wind
But hooked on the wine from the fruits of the summer
True love like the lilacs in winter will die
