Running Away

I know the pain, I've felt the suffering
Sometimes it was more than I could stand
There was nothing to gain, and no way of buffering
The pain I received at anothers hand
Did not intend, to let it go so far
Was in over my head before I knew
I can't pretend, not to have scars
Like an ancient warrior beaten black and blue

Running away
Running away from it all
Hoping not to ever be caught again

Looking over my shoulder, is it right behind
The torment I endured so long ago
Even though I'm older, it seeps into my mind
Playing in my memory like a picture show
I try to focus, on the here and now
How did those memories sneak into my brain
Like swarms of locust, around my brow
Clouding my vision and causing much pain

Running away
Running away from it all
Hoping not to ever be caught again
