Keel Over

Water pounding on the Brighton Lanes
People skitter by, yet another day
Dodging rivulets and cars along the curb
Dodging love affairs, please do not disturb
The charity purveyors shake you by the hand
Say you got no money they don't want to understand
So I skip the rigmarole, escape between the shops
A piercing parlour where you pay to get cut up

It's a changing of the guard
Burning holes inside your heart
And I could keel over
Keel over now
I could keel over
Keel over now

The busker in the archway singing for parole
Cross-legged on the dry dirt, Al-fresco Albert Hall
Through the fog of purchase no-one pays him any mind
I'm not one to criticise, I hardly pay him mine

It's a changing of the guard
Burning holes inside your heart
And I could keel over
Keel over now
I could keel over
Keel over now

As the winter pulls a chill around us all
The crowd is getting thinner and the city air is raw
It's bitter, free and succulent - a place to call your own
Sour in the back streets, feel it in your bones

It's a changing of the guard
Burning holes inside your heart
And I could keel over
Keel over now
I could keel over
Keel over now
