Blue Tears

The blue whale, king of the sea passed his memory to me
Pressed his great baleen grin as close as could be
On the floor of the ocean, his last great breath ran out
His life, his loves, his mortal coil filled my soul thoughout
And I learned the truth from him, I learned his final fear
The death of man and beast was in me, roar in my ear.

The killer whale was just that: black, white, he did it well
They had spies in tanks on land, they watched us buy and sell
Sang their song through dirt and sand, vibrating to the seas
Where their brothers listened, plotted, jumped like giant fleas
And with their singing, keening, whining voices, they'd kill millions
By detonating our bombs with oscillations.

Don't forget your father
You're the new king of the deep
Don't forget your father
Blue tears in the sea don't keep.

War came to man, mushroom clouds grew and ate them all
The killer whales, they danced and played and watched the awful toll
But when a whale passes on, he learns the secret truth I know
He's reborn a man, to live life as his greatest foe
And so the day they heard the toll, the passing of man
That was the day they sealed their fate, grew old and beached on land.

Don't forget your father
You're the new king of the deep
Don't forget your father
Blue tears in the sea don't keep.

I am the new blue king of the sea, and I lie here
At the bottom of my sea, I watch it steal my tears
I preside over a lost empire, a perfect pact
I am lord over brothers whose brothers they attacked
I cry into the sea, I bury my face in the sand
I am the very last to know the men of sea and land.

From the ocean bottom, I swim quickly to the surface
I breach like no one has before, the last of my race
I swim to land and beach myself, a suicide vault
No more men means no more whales, and all that is my fault
In the sun, I deflate, my sides sink in, and just then
A man where there should be none puts his hand on my fin
He says, "You've done well, son," with kindness I cannot withstand
And he catches the tear from my great eye in his hand.

Don't forget your father
You're the new king of the deep
Don't forget your father
Blue tears in the sea don't keep.
