In the City

The rising water knocked you from your feet
As you scrambled for higher ground
The smoke was lingerin' over 40 east
So you made for the center of town
There's no knowing what you'll find there

You were out-of-state
And you were feeling lonely
Thought you'd relocate
From the city, to the city
What you couldn't see
Until you signed the papers
Is that you'd always be
From the city, in the city

The Stahlman building was a welcome sight
You would follow the neon sign
You had no way to know the station moved
In 1979
The sun is fading, you're running out of time

You were out-of-state
And you were feeling lonely
Thought you'd relocate
From the city, to the city
What you couldn't see
Until you signed the papers
Is that you'd always be
In the city
