Olive Branch

Took a walk through a park
In the afternoon
Building the courage
It'd been a couple of years
Since I'd talked to you
And I was nervous
Had too much time passed?
Would you even answer?
I had to psyche out my mind
Hoping I could just find
The words
To say

It's time that I try
To reconnect with you
And I apologize
For all that you went through
When I wasn't there

So I took a seat
By the monkey bars
Wishing you were here
We never played hide and seek
Or rode bumper cars
Or walked on the pier
I missed your first date
And plenty more
And maybe it's too late
To open that door
But not a day goes by
Where you don't cross my mind
So before
I lose my nerve

It's time that I try
To reconnect with you
And I apologize
For all that you went through
When I wasn't there

It doesn't mean I didn't care
We were young
And victims of their choices
I know it wasn't fair
And I can't rewind the time
But I don't think I'd want to
God's design
Will let us make old things brand new
But it's up to you (and I hope you do)

It's time that I try
To reconnect with you
And I apologize
For all that you went through
When I wasn't there
Doesn't mean I didn't care
I'm sorry I wasn't there
But I have always cared
