Arise, compañero*,
what was lost was just a battle,
but the war will be won
building a great wall.

The war will be won
when we learn to realize
that the working class united
can never be overcome.

Who had reason on their side
never a fatal wound recieved,
and reason lies with the people,
not in the rich man’s house.

Pedro, Juanito, Manuel,
we must start to cure the wounds
with the unity of the humble
who have always been offended.

Arise, compañero,
if today we’re only a few
by tomorrow there’ll be millions
standing up like you.

* Compañero is used as companion, comrade, brother – a very expressive word that encompasses a very special relatiosship – extensively used during the Unidad Popular government.
