From the big coal companies he got his pay

His youngest girl was Doctor Betty
With her face so pretty and her smile so sweet
She walked the coal towns of Force and Byrndale
She saw the sewage waters flowing down the street.
She saw the children drink the cankered water
She saw the chickens fly up on the roof
She saw the waters overflow the sewers
And flood their gardens of victory.
She went to the big shots of the Shawmut Company
She did not beg and she did not plead
She stood flatfooted and pounded the table
Sewer pipes and bathrooms are what we need.
My dady told me to fight to cure sickness
But I can't cure sickness with sewage all around
These germs kill people quicker than I can cure them
We need a foundation under every house.
We need a bathroom for every family

Three hundred miners are out behind me

I quit my job as the family doctor
I nailed up my shingle and went on my own
I carried my pillbag and waded those waters

The state inspector was testing the water
While he was working you stood around.
One miner asked him to have a drink free
The inspector looked out toward our pits
He set his hat back on his head and says,
"I wouldn't drink a drop of that on a bet."

El trovador cubano Silvio Rodríguez abrió el 1 de septiembre en el Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona su nueva gira por el Estado español con un concierto de 22 canciones que fue creciendo paulatinamente hasta desembocar en una sucesión final de clásicos. El Festival de Cine Ibero-Latino Americano de Trieste concederá este viernes 11 de septiembre de 2026 el "Premio Salvador Allende" a Joan Manuel Serrat, en reconocimiento a una trayectoria vinculada a la cultura, la defensa de la democracia y los derechos humanos y a su relación con América Latina. La ceremonia tendrá lugar a las 17:00 horas en la Sala Igea del Palazzo Mattei di Paganica, sede histórica del Instituto de la Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani, en Roma, en colaboración con la Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani-Fundación Treccani Cultura.
La cantautora cubana Liuba María Hevia dará a conocer su nuevo trabajo, integrado por once canciones dedicadas a la memoria, el amor, la patria, la migración y la esperanza, en un concierto el 19 de septiembre de 2026 en el Ateneo de Madrid. El disco cuenta con las colaboraciones de Ana Belén, el gaitero Hevia y Marisa Valle Roso, y combina sonoridades cubanas y caribeñas con la trova, el blues, el country, la música asturiana y elementos de cámara contemporánea. El primer sencillo, Amada tierra mía, se publicará el 18 de septiembre.
